Clinical Interests/Experience:
I taught psychiatric nursing at Indiana University for 39 years with tenure and have worked psychiatric in-patient settings. I continue to be involved in Mental Health America of Indiana (MHAI), the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), and the Indiana Federation of Families for Children’s Mental Health (IFFCMH). I completed a ten year appointment on the Governor’s Commission on Mental Health in 2013. I serve as facilitator for two self-help support groups in Bloomington: Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) and Schizophrenia Alliance (SA). I served 21 years in the Army Reserves as an LTC in the 55th Medical Co., a psychiatric combat stress control unit, until 2005. I am a member of the American Nurses Association, the American Psychiatric Nurses Association, and Sigma Theta Tau International (nursing honor society). I have had contracts working in our women and men’s state prisons, community mental health center, and on the Navajo Nation in Crownpoint, NM. I love working as a psychiatric nurse provider with clients aged 16 and older in a holistic approach with a goal of recovery to the highest possible level of functioning. My special interest is working with clients with anxiety, depression, bipolar, and schizophrenia disorders with a focus on adherence to treatment.
