Driver/Group Assistant
Division: Clinical Services

Transport child consumers to and from destinations as defined by Child/Adolescent Services. Serve as a front line liaison with families of consumers and interact with children in a respectful manner in groups.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities |

- Schedule transportation routes to ensure safe and efficient service.
- Transport clients as requested by supervisor.
- Assist clients to ensure safe, courteous service delivery; remain with clients at all times during loading, transporting and unloading.
- Drivers must use seat belts at all times. Ensure passengers are seated and buckled or in child safety seats (if appropriate) at all times.
- Drivers are to exhibit cooperation, courtesy and a positive attitude toward the public and in interactions with consumer’s families and staff.
- Must maintain confidentiality regarding all consumers.
- Maintain transportation logs and other service documentation.
- Implement regular maintenance care/checks on assigned vehicle (i.e., cleaning, oil pressure, and water level).
- Participate in staffings, staff, and other meetings as assigned.
- Interact appropriately with any and all clients, visitors, family members, and care providers of clients.
- Assist group leaders in therapeutic activities, behavior management, assist with snacks, etc.
- Maintain working knowledge of general safety procedures (i.e., winter driving, fire, etc.).
- Assist teachers with classroom preparation as assigned.
- Assist in the maintenance of group related quality assurance documentation (i.e., infection reports, time-outs, etc.).
- Ability to demonstrate competent use of Profiler.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements |
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge and skills in general vehicle safety and maintenance procedures; local streets and map reading; safe driving skills; written and oral communication; interpersonal skills.
- Basic knowledge of the growth and development of young children.
- Indiana chauffeur’s license in good standing to transport clients.
- Willingness to use personal transportation in work capacity.
- Ability to hear, see, lift, stoop and tolerate motor play with small children.
- Valid driver's license.

- Valid driver’s license in accordance with HCI motor vehicle policy.

While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee may be required to climb and/or lift.
Driver/assistant will work approximately 50 percent in van. Will need to drive safely in varying weather and changing routes. Approximately 50 percent of time will be in groups assisting with difficult to manage children. Errors could result in serious injury to children and damage to Center property.
- Completion of tuberculin screening no later than three days prior to the first day of employment and annually thereafter.
- Completion of a pre-employment drug screening and completion of post-employment drug or alcohol tests upon reasonable suspicion of use.
- Satisfactory completion of an Indiana Department of Child Services National Criminal fingerprinting background check, Indiana State Criminal History Check, Sex and Violent Offender Registry check, Child Protection Services History check and Local law enforcement agency/county sheriff check at the time of hire and every four years (or at contract renewal if more than one year has passed since last fingerprinting) for any employee that has direct contact on a regular and continuing basis with children supervised by DCS
- Satisfactory reference and driving background checks.
- Completion of center-wide orientation and ALL required paperwork prior to reporting for work.
- Completion of HCI Commitment to Quality Training
- Attendance at all mandatory staff development and training.
- Successful completion of a six month on the job orientation period.
- Participation in payroll electronic deposit.
- Adherence to Compliance Program Plan.
