Residential Technician

Division Client Support Services (CSS-I)
Department: PHP
Supervised By: Program Supervisor
FLSA Status: Non-exempt/Regular/Full-time or Relief

Position Summary

Educate and supervise mentally ill adults at supervised group living residences with limited on-site supervision.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Monitor, educate and assist residents in performance of activities of daily living in accordance with goals and problem area identified on individualized treatment plan
  • Participate in continuing education activities, remaining knowledgeable in areas related to the focus of the residential program
  • Attend meetings as appropriate and meet regularly with supervisor and peers to exchange pertinent information and to receive supervision
  • Maintain client and program records in accordance with applicable standards and regulations
  • Interact appropriately with any and all visitors, family members, and care providers of residents
  • Carry out responsibilities pertaining to the efficient and therapeutic operation of the facility, including all events, activities and outings, utilizing safety management, emergency procedures and non-violent crisis intervention
  • Will be expected to bill for services provided
  • Assist with inventory and general maintenance of supplies, facilities and equipment
  • Perform cleaning duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Interact with clients in a confidential, therapeutic, and responsible manner maintaining a high level of ethical conduct
  • Manage crisis and emergency situations involving residents
  • Transport residents to and from appointment, groups and other activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Flexibility to work any shift preferred
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge and skills in educating clients in daily living skills
  • Observation and decision making skills
  • Experience in implementing group activities helpful
  • Willingness to use personal transportation in work capacity
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Maintain a valid Indiana Chauffeur’s license in good standing
  • Maintain current Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification
  • Maintain current American Red Cross CPR/1st Aid certification
Physical Demands

  • Assists clients walking to and from activities
  • Lifts and carries up to 25 pounds
  • Safely loads and unloads consumers from vans
  • Participates in group activities/yard games
  • Climbs stairs and/or ladder
  • Gets down on hands and knees
  • Working hours rotate quickly
Work Environment
  • Job duties are primarily provided in the Supervised Group Living facilities and in other community locations as indicated.
Conditions of Employment
  • Completion of tuberculin screening no later than three days prior to first day of employment and annually thereafter.
  • Completion of a pre-employment drug screening and completion of post-employment drug or alcohol tests upon reasonable suspicion of use.
  • Completion of Center-wide orientation and ALL required paperwork prior to reporting for work
  • Demonstrated computer literacy through successful completion of pre-employment testing may be required.
  • Completion of Total Quality Management training
  • Attendance at all mandatory staff development and training
  • Successful completion of a six month on the job orientation period
  • Participation in payroll electronic deposit
  • Adherence to Compliance Program Plan
  • Satisfactory reference and background investigation checks.
    Satisfactory completion of an Indiana Department of Child Services criminal fingerprinting background check at the time of hire and every four years (or at contract renewal when applicable) for any employee that has direct contact on a regular and continuing basis with DCS and IVB clients
